Mumbai, June 9 (IBNS): Life in Mumbai was badly hit on Saturday as the city was lashed by Monsoon rains, disrupting traffic and train and flight services in India's financial capital.

So far, 20 domestic flights have been cancelled to and from Mumbai. Some international flights are also delayed.

According to reports, local trains are running late.

Several low lying areas in Mumbai have been waterlogged.

The Mumbai Police have directed people to drive safely.

"You surely don’t want your vehicle & you lying like that on the road, in the rains! The roads are slippery & its consequence was seen this morning at Lower Parel! Thankfully no casualties. Please drive extra carefully. Decrease speed, increase cautiousness #MumbaiRains #RoadSafety," tweeted the police.

The India Meteorological Department has warned that Maharashtra might expect to receive rains for the next two days.

In a statement, it said: "Enhanced rainfall activity over coastal Karnataka, Goa and coastal Maharashtra due to the strengthening of monsoon is likely to continue till 10 th June. Extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places in Goa and south coastal Maharashtra is also very likely during 9 th -10th June. The rainfall activity over these regions is likely to reduce significantly from 12th June."

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) had earlier claimed this year that it was gearing up for the Monsoon session and it was prepared for it.
