Guwahati, Apr 24 (IBNS) : A petrol pump in upper Assam’s Charaideo district was in the line of massive firing by suspected militants of banned outfit United Liberation Front of Asom – Independent (ULFA-I), on Monday night.

A grenade thrown at the petrol pump did not blast.

The incident took place at the Brahmaputra Fuel Centre at Sapekhati area  along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border.

There is no report of any casualties.

The employees of the petrol pump had managed to escape to a safe place when the suspected militants began firing.

Several bullets hit a Tata dumper vehicle, which was parked at the petrol pump.

The suspected militants had fled towards Kanubari tea estate area along Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border after the shootout and there was a report of another firing at the area.

Following the firing incident, top police officials rushed the area and recovered a live grenade, and nearly 50 rounds of spent cartridges from the petrol pump area.

Later, a bomb squad team defused the live grenade.

Meanwhile, the state police and the army jointly have launched an operation against  militants along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border.
