New Delhi, Apr 16 (IBNS) :  Launching a scathing attack on Narendra Modi for the "shameful" incidents of sexual assault of minors, Congress president Rahul Gandhi on Monday asked the Prime Minister if he is "serious about the justice of daughters" and demanded fast tracking of the cases.

In a tweet, Gandhi said there were 19,675 rapes of minor children reported in 2016.

"This is shameful. PM should fast track these cases and punish the guilty if he is serious about providing “justice for our daughters.”

Gandhi, whose gun has steadily been trained at Modi on various issues, particularly after the series of incidents of sexual assault on minor girls, had said last week that the Prime Minister's silence over the issue  was unacceptable.

Last week, in an apparent reference to the Unnao rape  case in which BJP legislator Kuldeep Singh Sengar has been held an accused, Gandhi had asked as to why the man was being protected by the state.

The Congress chief had also led a midnight candlelight march at India Gate in New Delhi in protest against the  Kathua and Unnao rape cases.
