Tamil Nadu: Strike called by transport workers' union hits bus services

Chennai, Jan 5 (IBNS): The bus services in Tamil Nadu are hit as the transport workers' union went on an indefinite strike from Friday over the disagreement on wage accord proposed by the government, media reports said.

 

Due to the ongoing strike, the bus services have crippled totally in large parts of the state.

A collector, according to The Times Of India, claimed the bus services were affected least in Salem district where around 86% of government buses are operating.

In the capital city, Chennai, a stone pelting incident has occurred at a bus depot. Several daily commuters are stranded on the bus stand in Chennai due to the strike.

Meanwhile, the High Court refused to begin suo motu cognizance against the strikers.

Around 1.8 crore passengers avail the bus services across the state, reports said.
