Delhi High Court stays Madhu Koda jail term in coal scam case
New Delhi, Jan 2 (IBNS): Former Jharkhand chief minister Madhu Koda got some relief on Tuesday after the Delhi High Court stayed a trial court order that had awarded a three-year jail term to Koda in a coal scam case, media reported.
The Delhi Court stayed the trial court order until January 22 as well as a fine of Rs 25 lakh but directed Koda not to leave the country.
The HC has also asked the CBI to submit its response regarding Koda's appeal challenging his conviction and sentence, reports said.
In December last, a special CBI court in Delhi sentenced Koda to three years' imprisonment holding him guilty of corruption and conspiracy in allocation of a Jharkhand-based coal block to Kolkata-based company Vini Iron and Steel Udyog Ltd.
Similar punishment was awarded to fomer coal secretary H C Gupta and two others.
Special Judge Bharat Parashar pronounced a fine of Rs 50 lakh on the errant company Vini Iron & Steel Udyog Ltd.
