Guwahati, Dec 16 (IBNS): Security forces have arrested a senior NSCN(IM) militant in Arunachal Pradesh on Friday night, officials said on Saturday.

Kohima based Defence PRO Colonel Chiranjeet Konwer said that, based on intelligence input about a militant trying to terrorize and extort money at Khonsa town, the troops of Assam Rifle’s Khonsa battalion launched operation in the area and nabbed the militant identified as Yangle Kongkang, a self styled major of the Naga outfit.

Security personnel also recovered a Pistol, ammunition, 30 gms of Opium, Rs 10,200 of extortion money and other incriminating evidence from his person.

Khonsa battalion of the security forces under DAO DIVISION has been carrying out unabated operations in south Arunachal Pradesh to keep the area peaceful and out of clutches of insurgents.

Post spot interrogation the nabbed militant admitted to being actively involved in the outfit after being recruited in NSCN(K) in Jan 1999 and had undergone training at NSCN(K) training camp.

“The militant defected to NSCN(R) in 2015 and was promoted to rank of Self Styled Major thereafter. In 2016 he defected to NSCN(IM) and has been involved in extortion activities in Khonsa for the banned outfit,” the Defence PRO said.
