Assam: GRP recover Rs 1.60 crore from a person in Guwahati

Guwahati, Dec 10 (IBNS) : The Government Railway Police (GRP) on Sunday recovered an amount of Rs 1.60 crore of Rs 2000 notes from a person at Guwahati railway station. 

A top official of GRP said that based on intelligence input, GRP personnel had conducted search operation at the 15960 DW Kamrup express and recovered the huge amount in possession from a person identified as Amit Kumar Sarma.

The person was reportedly carrying the currency and travelling in coach no A1 in the train on the way to Howrah in West Bengal.

The top GRP official said the person was detained after he was unable to produce valid documents.

Amit Kumar Sarma, hailing from Upper Assam's Tinsukia district, and is an employee of Tinsukia Development Corporation Limited (TDCL).

Meanwhile, the person and the seized amount have been handed over to the Income Tax department.
