Ignoring orders from state bureaucracy, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat hoists national flag at Kerala school

Thiruvanthapuram, Aug 15 (IBNS) : Rashtriya Swayam Sevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat on Tuesday, hoisted the national tricolour at an Independence Day programme at a Government-aided school in Kerala, defying an order from the state's bureaucracy, NDTV reported.

According to reports, Palakkad District Collector Mary Kutty had on Monday issued a written order for the school authority stating that Bhagwat must not unfurl the national flag as only the office-bearers at the school or elected representatives like MLAs are allowed to do so.

The BJP and its ideological mentor the RSS have said that every one has the right to hoist the national flag.

The function was held at the Karnakiyamman school in Palakkad, around 335 km from  Thiruvananthapuram.

Bhagwat is in Kerala for meetings of the RSS, which is embroiled in bloody clashes with the CPI(M), the ruling party in the state.

However, both the RSS and BJP have pitched for a strong presence in Kerala, ruled either by Marxists or Congress for a long period, and have set an eye on the next Assembly elections.
