Assam Rifles troop nab NSCN (R) militant in Arunachal Pradesh

Guwahati, Aug 12 (IBNS) : Security forces apprehended a militant belonging to NSCN (R) in Arunachal Pradesh’s Changlang district on Friday night, officials said on Saturday.

Kohima based Defence PRO Colonel Chiranjeet Konwar said that following a tip-off, , the Jairampur Battalion of Assam Rifles launched an operation at 17 Mile area in Changlang district and nabbed the militant.

The nabbed militant was identified as Jongsham Chena, Self Styled Private of NSCN(R) and security personnel had recovered one pistol with ammunition in possesstion from him.

“Post spot interrogation he admitted allegiance to NSCN(R), he further divulged that he has been active part of the outfit since Jun 2015 and had received three months weapons training at NSCN Pongphung Camp at Tizit, Mon. The militant had been previously apprehended by Assam Rifles at Changlang town on October 8, 2016 while carrying out extortion and has been on bail since October 26, 2016,” the Defence PRO said.

Security forces has been carrying out aggressive operations in the South Arunachal Pradesh and this apprehension has struck a blow to the extortion activities being carried out by the underground cadres of the group in the area.

On the other hand, Assam police had arrested two arms dealer from Badarpur railway station in Karimganj district and recovered 305 rounds live ammunition in possession from them.

A top police official said that, the persons had carried the ammunition of AK-56, AK-47 and 303 rifle from Dimapur to Agartala.
