Ex-Doordarshan anchor dies after tree falls on her during morning walk
The bizarre incident, which took place on Thursday, was caught on a CCTV camera that went viral on Saturday.
The victim, identified as Kanchan Nath, 58, died on Saturday. She had received severe head injuries after the tree fell on her.
The footage, available with media, showed that the coconut tree suddenly crushing and falling on Kanchan following which she collapsed immediately.
Passers by gathered at the spot and pulled her out from under the tree.
Her family has blamed the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) for her death.
They have alleged that the civic body had denied permission to cut the tree that fell on her.
Kanchan's husband Rajat Nath said that he will sue the BMC for "criminal negligence."
Nath also said the tree was in the premises of one Avinash Pol, who had made a proper application to the civic authorities in February this year to cut down the tree.
They had appealed stating that the tree was not in good condition.
