CBI raids: Cong comes out in strong support of Lalu, JD-U maintains distance

Patna, July 8 (TheBiharPost/IBNS): The Congress party in a surprise move on Saturday came out in strong support of the RJD chief Lalu Prasad , made accused in the land-for-hotel-scandal by the CBI.

“The entire Congress party strongly stands with Lalu Prasadji at this hour of crisis,” state Congress president Ashock Chaudhary told the media on Saturday, emerging out after meeting the embattled Yadav leader.

He also attacked the NDA government at the centre for “victimizing” the opposition leaders and bulldozing the secular forces.

Earlier in the day Chaudhary who is also an education minister in the ruling grand alliance government which chief minister Nitish Kumar heads, accompanied with senior party leaders rushed to the residence of Prasad as a show of solidarity.

The JD-U led by Kumar, however, has distanced itself from the incident and none from the party has spoken anything about the raids.

Reports said the all JD-U spokespersons have been asked by the chief minister not to make any comments over raids.

The chief minister himself is out of Patna since Friday, recuperating in his home town Rajgir.

But the RJD said it had no grievances from the JD-U saying the latter was with the former.

“The JD-U is with us…the grand alliance is intact,” RJD state president Ramchandra Purbe told the media today, denying any differences in the alliance.
