India Blooms News Service | | 06 Aug 2014, 10:53 pm
New Delhi, Aug 6 (IBNS) With crimes against women still affecting the nation, Union Cabinet on Wednesday gave its nod to the amendment to the Juvenile Justice Act that will give Juvenile Justice Board the power to take decision whether minors could be tried as adults in case of heinous crimes like rape or murder, media reports said.

The minors should be between 16 to 18 years of age.

" The amendment will give the magistrate the power to decide if a juvenile involved in a heinous crime should be sent to a correction facility or tried by a regular court. But these suspects cannot be given the death sentence or life imprisonment," CNN-IBN reported.

The Bill will now be presented to President Pranab Mukherjee for his approval.
