Amitabh Bachchan receives advice from Congress' Sanjay Nirupam to withdraw from promoting GST

Mumbai, June 21 (IBNS): Congress leader Sanjay Nirupam on Tuesday advised Bollywood legend Amitabh Bachchan to withdraw himself from promoting Goods and Services Tax (GST) in its present form, on Wednesday.

The Congress leader even warned him that it might affect his stature.

In a tweet, Nirupam said: "Would advise @SrBachchan to wthdraw frm brand ambassador of #GST in ths form.An expected backlash frm traders may go against him eventually."

Bachchan was made the brand ambassador of GST, which will roll out on July 1.

He already shot a 40 seconds advertisement of GST.

On June 19, Union finance minister had himself uploaded the advertisement of GST on Twitter, which features Big B.

In the video, Bachchan was seen to speak about the key quality of GST as the unified tax structure. He even endorsed GST as the step to tie the whole country in a single spirit.

This is not the first time Bachchan is advised to stay away from any endorsement. Earlier former Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Akhilesh Yadav, during the campaigning of Assembly election 2017, urged the actor to stay away from endorsing Gujarat tourism.

Yadav was quoted saying, "I would request him not to promote the donkeys of Gujarat", referring to an advertisement where donkeys were shown.
