Two militants killed in Assam encounters

Guwahati, Aug 4 (IBNS) : Two militants were killed in two separate gun battle with security forces in Assam on Sunday night, police said on Monday.

According to reports, a hardcore militant of National Democratic Front of Bodoland (Sangbijit) was killed in an encounter with security forces at Auzar area in Chirang district under Bodoland Territorial District Area (BTAD) on Sunday night.

IGP of Assam police LR Bisnoi said security forces had launched operation in the remote area on the basis of intelligence input .

Security forces recovered two pistols, a hand grenade, 10 rounds of live ammunition and two mobile handsets from the deceased militant identified as Ankhuma, the Karigaon section commander of the outfit group.

The police arrested another NDFB(S) militant identified as Jackson Basumutary.

In separate incident, a militant of United Achik Liberation Army (UALA) was killed in an encounter with security forces in lower Assam's Goalpara district.

The UALA militant was killed during the encounter with police and army at Khardung area under Krishnai police station along the Assam-Meghalaya border.

The slain militant has yet to be identified.
