Centre to bring major changes in school education: Javadekar
While inaugurating the North-Eastern region workshop on innovations and best practices in school education held in Guwahati, the union minister said that, from updating NCERT textbooks to examination, the Centre will bring several changes in the schools education system.
Javadekar said that, students would be given two chances to pass in a year with one being in March and second one in June.
“If any student not able to pass in two examinations, he or she will be detained in the same class. Another change is class ten board examination will be mandatory for all students,” Javadekar said.
The Union minister further said that, the NCERT textbooks have not been revised in past 10 years and advised to revise after collecting suggestions from the parents, teachers and other stakeholders.

On the other hand, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal said that through education people gain knowledge and knowledge gives us power. Quality education determines quality life.
Sonowal said that the State Government’s decision to start Gunotsav across schools in Assam was aimed at creating value-based and quality education in the State.
The CM said that teaching is a noble profession which can create a value based society.
Sonowal also said that if teachers are committed they can create good students and in turn good citizens.
Stating that the development of a country hinges on good citizens, Sonowal said teachers can play a role in nation development also.
Reiterating State Government’s commitment to quality education, he said that his government is distributing free text books to the students up to the level of high school.
He also said that to help the students belonging to below poverty line who are interested in pursuing higher education, the government has waived off their admission and other fees in colleges.
Sonowal also hailed the role of the Centre in helping the state in strengthening the inroad of higher education in the State.
Assam Chief Secretary VK Pipersenia, host of senior officers and representatives from all the North Eastern States were present at the workshop.
