Kolkata, Feb 16 (IBNS): Police on Thursday arrested three persons for ransacking a privately-run hospital in Kolkata following a patient's death, officials said.

According to reports, three men, Rakesh Dhanuk, Jiauddin Sk and Sk Sony (22), have been booked in connection with the  vandalism.

They are residents of nearby areas.

On Wednesday, family members of the teenager and a large number of locals reportedly ransacked CK Birla Group owned CMRI hospital at Ekbalpore area in south part of the city.

They alleged that the 16-year-old girl, Saika Parveen, died due to facility's negligence

They allegedly beat hospital staffers and blocked Diamond Harbour Road (NH 117) nearby, disrupting traffic at the pick office hours.

Later, a heavy police force along with Rapid Action Force (RAF) rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control.

Denying all allegations of medical negligence against them, the CMRI authority lodged complaint against the attackers at local Ekbalpore Police Station.

"Based on eye-witnesses accounts and CCTV footage, we have arrested three local youths- Rakesh Dhanuk (25), Jiauddin Sk (26) & Sk Sony (22)- and our raids are still on to catch others involved in the case," a senior official of Kolkata Police told IBNS.

However, the trio was produced in a local court at Alipore on Thursday afternoon and was sent to police custody till Feb 18.

Meanwhile, West Bengal Customer Affairs Minister Sadhan Pandey has called for a meeting with the CEOs and top officials of state's privately owned hospitals on Feb 22 to discuss patients' allegations of harassment and unbridled billing by the hospitals' authorities, sources said.
