Lawyers are the voice of conscience of the society : Sonowal
While speaking at the 15th Biennial Conference of All Assam Lawyers Association (AALA) at District Library Auditorium in Barpeta, the Assam CM said that the lawyers must play their role with utmost sincerity and dedication to inspire respect for the law among all sections of the society and instil fear of the law in the hearts of all those who disturb the peace and harmony in the society.
Referring to Srimanta Sankardeva’s advice to govern the society with fear and respect, Sonowal said that a just society built and governed by the tenets of law where discipline reigns supreme must be the primary objective of the lawyers.
Stating that the judiciary and justice delivery machinery must be made attractive for the young generation, Sonowal said that the youth should be encouraged to bring fresh perspective to law studies and how the judiciary works so that new age crimes like cyber and technological crimes can be proven in courts more efficiently.
Urging AALA to take up matters of interest for the state with vigour and act as a platform for finding solutions to some of the vexed problems affecting the state, Sonowal said that a strong and robust judiciary system is of paramount importance so that even the weakest member of society gets justice without delay.
The Assam CM also said that all four pillars of the democracy must work in tandem towards making the nation successful in achieving its goals.
Lauding the efforts of Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court Ajit Singh to make the justice delivery system more accessible to common man, Chief Minister Sonowal said that the government is always ready to extend any help in building infrastructure for the judiciary.
