Karbi outfit group likely to lay down arms next week

Guwahati, Feb 12 (IBNS): The Karbi outfit group Karbi People's Liberation Tiger (KPLT) is likely to lay down arms next week.

A top Assam police official said that, the date for arms lay down ceremonial function is yet to be finalized, but it may be next week.

The top police official further said that, the outfit group will be laid down arms before the Assam Chief Minister and the ceremonial function likely to be held at Bokajan in the hill district.

Meanwhile, the Assam government is all set to prepare modalities for peace talk with the KPLT.

Assam DGP Mukesh Sahay said that, peace talk with KPLT will start soon.

“The modalaties for peace talk are being prepared at present and it would likely to start by April next,” Sahay said.

“KPLT has already declared unilateral ceasefire and the Assam government also announced to withhold counter insurgency operations against the outfit group,” the Assam DGP said.

“It is a very good decision taken by the Karbi outfit group to come forward for peace talk and we welcomed it,” Sahay said.

On Oct 20 last year, KPLT had declared of a six-month unilateral ceasefire.

Following the declaration by KPLT, the Assam government on January 30 last had announced to withhold counter insurgency operations against the outfit till April 20 next.
