Assembly polls: Voting begins in Punjab,Goa

Amritsar, Feb 4 (IBNS): Voting is currently underway in Punjab and Goa as voters are casting their votes to elect new Assembly in the two crucial areas in the nation.

Elections to elec new assembly will be held in five states all through this month and into the next.

These are the first major elections taking place  in the nation since the Centre announced the currency ban on Nov 8.

The BJP is in power in Goa while the  Akali Dal-BJP alliance is ruling Punjab.

In Punjab, people will elect lawmakers across 117 seats.

Goa has 40 seats.

The Aam Aadmi Party is making their debut in Assembly polls in both Punjab and Goa.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged people to cast their votes.

He tweeted: "Urging people of Punjab & Goa to turnout in record numbers & vote in the Assembly elections. I particularly urge my young friends to vote."
