Former Punjab CM Surjit Singh Barnala dies

Chandigarh, Jan 14 (IBNS): After prolonged illness, former Chief Minister of Punjab Surjit Singh Barnala passed away on Saturday.

He was 91.

Political leaders expressed their condolances on social networkign sites.

Deputy Punjab CM Sukhbir Singh Badal tweeted: "Heartfelt condolences on the demise of Former CM S. Surjit Singh Barnala Ji. May his soul rest in peace."

Punjab Congress posted: "Aggrieved to hear about ex #Punjab #CM Surjit Singh Barnala's death, my heartfelt sympathies with the bereaved family: @capt_amarinder."

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister said: "Saddened by the demise of Punjab's former CM Surjit Singh Barnala. My thoughts are with the Barnala family. May his soul rest in peace."

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee also rememebered the leader and condoled his death as she tweeted: "Saddened by the passing of Surjit Singh Barnala Ji. My condolences to his family, friends and well wishers #RIP."
