Patna, Dec 28 (TheBiharPost/IBNS): In a significant move, the Bihar Government has granted 50 per cent reservation to the backwards and dalits in the state judicial services.

The reservation will be applicable in both in the superior and subordinate judicial services.

A decision to this effect was taken at a meeting of the state cabinet held under the chairmanship of Chief Minister  Nitish Kumar on Tuesday evening.

As per the decision, 21 per cent seats will be reserved for the extremely backward castes, 12 per cent for backward castes, 16 per cent for Scheduled castes and one per cent for the Schedules Tribe.

“The state Government has decided to implement the reservation in judicial services after the recent Supreme Court judgment,” general administration department’s principal secretary DS Gangwar told the media on Wednesday.

“We are wondering why the reservation has not been made for the backward and extremely backward castes so far,” a judge Rajendra Prasad was quoted as saying in a local newspaper.

Right now, nine Indian states have granted reservation in judicial services, which include Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Bengal, Karnataka, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand and Haryana, according to media reports.
