Bihar employs eunuchs to launch campaign against open defecation

Patna, Dec 27 (TheBiharPost/IBNS): Bihar has once again turned to eunuchs for help for social causes.

In a latest development, the Buxur district administration in Bihar has engaged the dancing eunuchs in campaign against open defecation.

At presently, the heavily made-up eunuchs can be seen dancing their ways from one locality to another in the Buxur and knocking doors of the residents, requesting them to have a toilet at home soon.

“Do you feel good when the mothers and sisters in your family move out to attend Nature’s call in the open?” is the most general question being asked the dancing eunuchs.

According to an official report, around 16.5 million households out of over 110 million population in Bihar currently do not have toilets in their homes as they are forced to defecate in the open.

In 2006, the Patna Municipal Corporation authorities had employed eunuchs to collect outstanding municipal taxes. The impact was such that state’s coffers got filled up barely within a week of then engaging in tax collection drive.

Earlier this month, eunuchs were roped in campaign against deadly AIDS. Dozens of transgender community people reached the Bihar assembly premises on December 1 and made the legislators aware about the deadly disease, handing out rose buds to them.
