Patna, Dec 24 (TheBiharPost/IBNS): As many as 681 persons from poor class or labourers have suddenly turned “lakhpati” (person owing more than Rs 100,000) in twin states of Bihar and Jharkhand post demonetization drive launched by the Indian government last month.

According to a report from Income Tax Department, money ranging from Rs 100,000 to 300,000 were deposited in 681 Jan Dhan bank accounts shortly after currency ban.

Of them, Rs 40 lakh (Rs four million) was deposited in a bank account owned by a lady from Bhojpur.

The said account, however, has been frozen.

As per IT officials, a total of Rs 10.80 crore (Rs 108 million) has been deposited in suspected Jan Dhan accounts.

Each Jan Dhan bank account has the maximum deposit limit of Rs 50,000. All these accounts are now under the scanner of the IT Department.

According to Principal IT Commissioner (Bihar-Jharkhand) ST Ahmad, total Rs 42.4 crore (Rs 424 million) had been detected as undisclosed income whereas Rs 9.17 crore (Rs 91.7 million) had been seized as unaccounted money since demonetization in Bihar.
