Government will safeguard the interest of indigenous people: Assam CM

Guwahati, Nov 4 (IBNS): Dispelling all doubts that engulf the political environment of the state in recent days, Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Friday said that Assam government will safeguard the interest of all the indigenous people of the state in right earnest.

Sonowal said that the present government has assumed charge with support from all indigenous people and it is fully committed to protect their culture, language and tradition.

He also said that government will soon carry out eviction drive to free the land under tribal belt from encroachment.
           
Speaking on the occasion of 3rd Annual Conference of United Bodo People’s Organization (UBPO) at Gorchuk in the city on Friday, the Assam CM commented that government believes in equity and gives equal importance to all communities in the state for their all round development.

He further said that the government is aware about the aspirations of the people of the state and is devising plans and programmes keeping in mind their overall interest.
           
Lauding the role of UBPO in unification of all Bodo people settled in different parts of the state, the Assam CM advocated for similar measures to make the Assamese community more cohesive and inclusive.

UBPO will be a trendsetter in building a strong, united and harmonious Assamese society, Sonowal added.

Underlining the immense endowment of the Bodo community, the Assam CM said that the Bodos are a daring and hardworking community which holds tremendous potential to help in the growth of the state.

Sonowal also praised the leadership of BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary and his role in streamlining peace process with insurgent outfits in the state.
           
With an impetus to uplift rural economy as well as to raise people’s standard of living, Sonowal asserted that the state government will invest Rs. 1.20 crore per revenue village under Chief Minister’s Samagra Gramya Unnayan Achoni in the coming years covering all villages of the state.

He also announced that the state government will provide all out support to BTC administration in infrastructure augmentation and all developmental activities in BTAD area.
           
Reiterating his Government’s commitment to provide good governance, Sonowal promised of transparent and corruption free administration in the state.

He also urged the people to be vigilant over the functioning of the Govt. and sought cooperation from all for successful implementation of its development agenda.
           
BTC Chief Hagrama Mohilary in his speech recalled the contribution of all Bodo people living in different parts of the state in the creation of BTC and promised to take all necessary measures to uphold their rights.

Stating that BTC administration is committed for development of all communities living within its territory, Mohilary declared that it would extend whole hearted support to the state Govt. in solving the problems and issues of different communities.
           
State Forest Minister Pramila Rani Brahma, Rajya Sabha MP Biswajit Daimary, Mising Autonomous Council Chief Dr. Ranuj Pegu, MLAs Thaneswar Basumatary, Moneswar Bodo, Secretary of Bodo Sahitya Sabha Kamalakanta Muchahary were present among others in the event.
