Narendra Modi meets Suu Kyi

New Delhi, Oct 19 (IBNS) : Prime Minister Narendra Modi met Aung San Suu Kyi, the visiting state counsellor and foreign minister of Myanmar on Wednesday.

“An old friend from the East, a partner in our common progress. PM receives Myanmar State counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi at Hyderabad House,” external affairs ministry spokesperson Vikas Swarup tweeted.

Following delegation-level talks headed by Modi and Suu Kyi, India and Myanmar  are expected to sign some agreements.

Wednesday is Suu Kyi's concluding day of her three-day visit to India.

On Tuesday, she met President Pranab Mukherjee.

This is the Nobel peace prize winner's first official visit  to New Delhi since her National League for Democracy (NLD) assumed power in Myanmar in March this year.

Prior to reaching New Delhi on Monday, , she attended the BRICS-Bimstec Outreach Summit in Goa on Sunday.
