New Delhi, Oct 13 (IBNS): The Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) on Thursday ordered a probe into the Prime Minister's effigy burning row.

The alleged incident took place on Tuesday night after a section of students burned effigies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP President Amit Shah inside the varsity campus, projecting them as Ravana.

"The effigy burning incident at JNU was brought to our notice. We are investigating the matter and examing all relevant information," JNU Vice Chancellor M Jagadesh Kumar tweeted.

Incidentally, the students also burned Kumar's effigy on the same night.

Meanwhile, the Home Ministry has also asked the police for a detailed report on the incident.

Effigy burning of Ravana, the main antagonist in Ramayana, is common in most parts of the nation during the time of Dusshera, a predominant Hindu festival.
