Narendra Modi relives Mahatma Gandhi's train journey to Pietermaritzburg

Durban, July 9 (IBNS) Reliving history, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is currently visiting South Africa, boarded a train at the Pentrich railway station to Pietermaritzburg station.

Modi boarded the train in memory of the 1893 incident when Mahatma Gandhi was thrown out of a train compartment due to  skin colour.

"In the footsteps of the Mahatma. PM @narendramodi relives the train journey to Pietermaritzburg," MEA spokesperson VIkas Swarup tweeted.

"When injustice birthed an unconquerable soul. PM travels alongs the tracks of the Mahatma to Pietermaritzburg," read another tweet.

He visited the place where Mahatma was uploaded from the train at Pietermaritzburg.

Swarup tweeted: "The making of the Mahatma. PM @narendramodi visits the spot where Gandhiji was offloaded at Pietermaritzburg."
