Lalu backs Nitish in Bihar Rajya Sabha polls

India Blooms News Service (IBNS) | | 19 Jun 2014, 11:23 am
Patna, June 19 (IBNS) Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Pradad Yadav will be backing Nitish Kumar's Janata Dal-United (JD-U) as an election to Bihar's two Rajya Sabha seats will take place on Thursday.

The RJD on Wednesday announced support to JD-U for the Rajya Sabha bypoll in Bihar.

The two JD-U nominees, diplomat-politician Pawan Varma and Gulam Rasool Balyawi, are facing tough competitions from Independents-real estate baron Anil Sharma and Sabir Ali.

The Independents are reportedly being backed by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The RJD chief had earlier said the parties have joined hands to keep the "communal forces" led by the BJP at bay.

"Our party will support JD-U to keep away communal forces from Bihar," Lalu Prasad told media.
