New Delhi, May 10 (IBNS) The Delhi University on Tuesday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi's graduation degree is authentic.

"We have checked our records and it has been authenticated that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's degree is authentic. He cleared the examination in 1978 and was awarded the degree in 1979,"  university's registrar Tarun Das was quoted as saying by NDTV.

Several Aam Aadmi Party leaders visited the university on Tuesday to verify Modi's degree that was released by the BJP.

The leaders were reportedly directed to come to the university on Wednesday.

"When we went to DU, VC and Registrar both refused to meet us. Now we know why? Meantime they were busy saving the PM," AAP leader Asutosh tweeted.

"It is not coincident tht just after we came back FM DU Registrar gave bite to a channel who blatantly favours Modi govt justifying degree," it said.

The AAP leader said: "But let me say this that cover up operation will not last long. Their names will be open who are involved in fabrication of degrees."

"Twice we have been to DU. Why it is shying away from showing documents and inspecting the whole process ?" the politician said.

BJP President Amit Shah and Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Monday held a press conference to display the mark sheets and degrees of Modi, alleging that AAP chief and  Delhi Chief mainister Arvind Kejriwal has been spreading "lies" about the PM's credentials and he should apologise to the nation.
