Modi's degree row intensifies as AAP says documents produced by BJP fake

New Delhi, May 9 (IBNS) The row over Prime Minister Narendra Modi's educational qualification reached to a new height on Monday when top leaders of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party released to the media his college degrees, which the Aam Aadmi Party described as fake.

In a day of dramatic developments, BJP President Amit Shah and Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley held a press conference to display the mark sheets and degrees of Modi, alleging that AAP chief and  Delhi Chief mainister Arvind Kejriwal has been spreading "lies" about the PM's credentials and he should apologise to the nation.

"Arvind Kejriwal has been spreading lies about the Prime Minister's credentials. He has tried to defame the PM. He should apologise not only to the PM but the entire nation," said BJP chief Amit Shah.

Jaitley, who was also at the press conference, said, "It is public discourse at its lowest ever. This from a political party whose leaders are being prosecuted and investigated," added union minister Arun Jaitley, who shared memories of Mr Modi coming to take his Delhi University exams during the Emergency of 1975-77.

"I knew this because I was the student union leader in Delhi University soon after the Emergency," Jaitley said.

Copies of the PM's degree were distributed to journalists. Amit Shah said it was a "shame that something like this required clarification."

But soon, the AAP held a counter press conference, where party leader Asutosh claimed that all the documents produced by the BJP leaders were 'forged.'

"I have the two degrees that BJP released at the presser. I have the mark sheet too.BA degree says Narendra Kumar DamodarDas Modi and MA degree says Narendra Damodardas Modi. How is this possible?" he asked.

Asutosh said if at all Modi had changed his name, then there should have been an affidavit.

He said the graduating year on marksheet is different from the year on degree certificate.

"They say you need brains even to forge something. The two  degrees and mark sheet are with you all. See carefully. See how they have fooled everyone, Asutosh said.

"They had the audacity to ask Arvind Kejriwal for an apology...We want Narendra Modi to apologise to the nation for a criminal offence."

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has  been claiming  that documents prove that PM Modi lied in his 2014 poll documents about his graduation from the Delhi University in 1978 and post-graduation from the Gujarat University in 1983.

Arvind Kejriwal also wrote to the Delhi University last week urging it to put up details of PM Modi's degree on its website for the public.
