Kolkata, Apr 6 (IBNS): A major fire broke out in Government of India's Electronics Regional Test Laboratory-East (ERTL-E) in Kolkata's Salt Lake Sector V area on Wednesday afternoon, reports said.

According to reports, the fire was first seen around 11:45 am. on the second floor of ERTL-E building at DN Block area.

As many as 11 fire tenders, Disaster Management Group (DMG) personnel and police force from Bidhannagar Police Commissionerate have rushed to the spot. After evacuating the building, firemen have begun operation to arrest the blaze.

However, no casualty has been reported in the incident so far.

"The building has been evacuated. We have sent over 10 fire tender engines along with a hydraulic ladder. More engines are rushing to the spot. The situation is being brought under control slowly. Hope the blaze will be arrested very soon," one senior official of West Bengal Fire and Emergency Services told IBNS.

According to fire officials, the fire might have started due to short circuit.

"After proper investigation, the actual reason behind the fire will be known. Forensic experts will visit the scene later and investigate the matter," the official further said.
