Kolkata/Jaipur, Mar 21 (IBNS) : On the occasion of the first Rajasthan IT Day, Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje on Monday dedicated RajNET to the people of the state.

RajNET is a wide area network connecting the state capital with all 9894 Gram Panchayats and 183 municipal areas in Rajasthan.

Built as a multimode connectivity network (through VSAT and terrestrial linkage), RajNET facilitates voice, video and data connection, enabling the effective delivery of citizen services like Bhamashah, e-Mitra and MNREGA across the State, including its remotest areas.

Speaking on the occasion at a day-long event held here, Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje said, “The basic idea in administration for us ‘SuRaaj’ or Good Governance. Effective Governance has to be based on a robust IT infrastructure and within the framework of a comprehensive e-Governance architecture. This is what we are seeking to provide in Rajasthan.”

Drawing attention to the transformative power of IT, the Chief Minister said, “Today in Rajasthan, IT tools are changing lives every day. From the point of sales machine in a ration shop to the drawing of pension through bio-metric verification from an e-Mitra counter, IT is making the lives of citizens simpler and better. E-mitra, Bhamashah and last mile connectivity have made this possible.”

The Chief Minister launched RajNET by holding simultaneous video conferencing with interlocutors at eight e-Mitra kiosks at different locations across different districts of the State.

She also distributed “Rajasthan e-Governance Awards 2014-15” to Government functionaries, recognising their contribution to the realisation of the State Government’s e-Governance vision.

The Government of Rajasthan has decided to observe ‘Rajasthan IT Day’ on March 21 every year. The theme of this year’s IT Day is “Promotion of IT Startups”. In line with the theme, a daylong event was organised in the State capital.

Startups, mentors and investors came together to deliberate on the challenges, opportunities and outlook for startups in India.
