New Delhi, June 3 (IBNS) The Supreme Court on Tuesday extended the interim bail of former Tehelka Editor-in-Chief and sexual assault accused Tarun Tejpal till June 27.
Tejpal applied for an extension of his interim bail by six weeks stating that he needs to be at home after the death of his mother Shakuntala Tejpal.

On May 20, he could not attend his mother's cremation despite getting an interim bail as his release from jail was delayed due to completion of formalities.

The Supreme Court on May 19 granted three weeks' interim bail to Tejpal to attend the cremation of Shakuntala Tejpal who died of brain tumour in Goa on May 18.

Tejpal, who was arrested by the Goa Police on Nov 30, 2013, has been charged with sexual harassment and other sections of the Criminal Law (Amendment) Act, 2013.

Tejpal allegedly sexually assaulted a woman journalist of his organization in an elevator of Grand Hyatt Goa during the Think festival of Tehelka where ironically the participants were debating on issues like rape.

The action of Tejpal is considered as rape under the new definition of the anti-rape law in India.
