Legendary tabla maestro Pt Shankar Ghosh dies in Kolkata

Kolkata, Jan 22 (IBNS): Tabla exponent Pandit Shankar Ghosh, who was the father of popular percussionist Bikram Ghosh, died at a private hospital in Kolkata on Friday. He was 80.
"Lost him... The Emperor of Tabla. My beloved father," Bikram Ghosh posted on his Facebook page.
 
Pandit Shankar Ghosh had been in coma for the last 40 days. He was suffering from heart ailments.
 
The legendary tabla player was admitted to hospital in the second week of  Dec and his condition reportedly worsened on Dec 14.
 
He died of a multi organ failure at 9 PM on Friday.
 
Pandit Ghosh was the recipient of the  prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1999-2000.
 
During his span of career, he had toured a number of countries for his performance.
