Kolkata: Ghulam Ali's concert to be held at Netaji Indoor Stadium

Kolkata, Jan 8 (IBNS): After changing at least three venues, West Bengal Minorities Development and Finance Corporation (WBMDFC) on Friday fixed Netaji Indoor Stadium in Kolkata as the venue to host Pakistani ghazal singer Ghulam Ali and his son Aamir Ali's concert.

The concert is scheduled to be held on Jan 12.

The WBMDFC at first selected the Park Circus Maidan to host the concert.

For several problems, organizers decided to shift the event to iconic cricket stadium  Eden Gardens  and requested the CAB for permission.

As the International Cricket Council (ICC)'s team is coming to Eden Gardens for inspection on Jan 15, ahead of the ICC T20 World Cup-2016 (which will be held in Mar-Apr), the CAB ruled out organizers' proposal to host the concert at Eden Gardens.

Thereafter, a delegation from WBMDFC on Friday noon inspected Mohun Bagan ground, which is located just opposite of Eden Gardens, and selected the ground as the venue for Ghulam Ali's concert.

However, on Friday evening, organizers announced their decision to shift the venue and host the event at Netaji Indoor Stadium.

One of the organizers, TMC MP Sultan Ahmed told IBNS, "Today, we firstly decided to hold the event at Mohun Bagan ground. But we have changed our decision later and are going to host the concert at Netaji Indoor Stadium here. We informed Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Kolkata Police officials and have received positive response from them."
