Bengal Global Business Summit: Arvind Kejriwal, Arun Jaitley share stage

Kolkata, Jan 8 (IBNS): At a time when Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley are engaged in a tussle over the alleged DDCa scams, Kolkata witnessed a different scene when both the leaders shared the stage at the Bengal Global Business Summit 2016 on Friday.

In a new development in the running battle between the Centre and  Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, an inquiry initiated by the Delhi government into alleged corruption in the DDCA  has been declared unconstitutional, reports said.

The Union Home Ministry has said the inquiry launched weeks ago by the Delhi government is illegal because it does not have the jurisdiction to look into the affairs of the DDCA.

Kejriwal in December appointed former Solicitor General Gopal Subramanium to investigate the alleged corruption in the cricket body of which Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley was the President from 2000 to 2013.

Kejriwal accused Jaitley of facilitating the massive corruption during his tenure and the latter sued the Chief Minister on defamation ground.

A committee of three members, also appointed by  Kejriwal's government to study the DDCA, did not mention  Jaitley in a nearly 250-page report that it submitted last month. Its findings were treated by the Chief Minister as a preliminary assessment; he then tasked Mr Subramanium to investigate the matter in detail.

Jaitley on Jan 5 appeared in the court here in connection with the  defamation suit filed by him against Kejriwal and other senior AAP leaders.

According to reports, Jaitley recorded his statement and said Kejriwal and five others AAP leaders had made false and defamatory statements against him and his family.

Jaitley  last month had filed both civil and criminal defamation cases against Kejriwal and five other AAP leaders, seeking Rs 10 crore in damages for accusing him of corruption in Deslhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) during his tenure as its chief.

Dignitaries from 25 countries and top business leaders, including Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani, assembled in Kolkata to attend the Bengal Global Business Summit 2016.
