Defamation case: Arun Jaitley appears in court

New Delhi, Jan 5 (IBNS): Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley appeared in the court here in connection with the defamation suit filed by him against Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal and other senior AAP leaders.

According to reports, Jaitley recorded his statement and said Kejriwal and five others AAP leaders had made false and defamatory statements against him and his family.

Jaitley  last month had filed both civil and criminal defamation cases against Kejriwal and five other AAP leaders, seeking Rs 10 crore in damages for accusing him of corruption in Deslhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) during his tenure as its chief.

Challenging the CBI to "send 100 officers to the Delhi Secretariat and look into every file in my office", Kejriwal had earlier  reiterated that the reason for the raid in his office was a file on details of alleged corruption in Delhi's cricket body DDCA (Delhi and District Cricket Administration), which was headed by Jaitley for 13 years till 2013.

"Mr Jaitley was repeatedly told many times about the corruption, but no action was taken. He was president for 14 years and such a scam took place on a large scale. The moment we say there is corruption in DDCA, Mr Jaitleyfiled a defamation suit against us," he had said.

When it was pointed out that Arun Jaitley was never named in connection with any corruption in the DDCA,  Kejriwal said those who investigated the cricket body said there were wrongdoings but never named anyone.
