New Delhi, Nov 26 (IBNS) The day Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the Indian constitution as "a ray of hope" Congress President Sonia Gandhi alleged that it is in "danger" and that attacks are being made on the pillar of Indian democracy "on purpose."
Speaking on the opening day of the winter session of Parliament, Gandhi said there is no doubt that the constitution gave an equal voice to the poor and gave secular values to the country. "The constituent Assembly got support from Jawaharlal Nehru, Sardar Patel, Rajendra Prasad and Maulana Azad," she said.

"Today is a day of joy, but  it is sad as well. Sad because the principles of the Constitution that guided us for decades is in danger... Danger looms over them. They are being attacked on purpose," Gandhi said as the House celebrated the first Constitution Day to mark the 125th birth anniversary of B R Ambedkar, regarded as the architect of Indian constitution.

Sonia pointed out that in March 1931 in Karachi convention, fundamental rights and economic rights were mentioned in the proposal.

"The history of the Constitution is very old and is linked to our freedom struggle and that it why it is interlinked with the Congress Party," she said.
