New Delhi, Nov 17 (IBNS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday paid tributes to the late Shiv Sena chief Bal Thackeray on his third death anniversary.

Modi tweeted: "Balasaheb Thackeray was committed to the well-being of people. He was widely admired by Karyakartas. Tributes to him on his Punya Tithi."

Bal Keshav Thackeray, popularly known as Balasaheb or Bal Thackeray, was a Marathi cartoonist turned politician who established the Hindu right-wing party, Shiv Sena.

Over the years Thackeray emerged as a powerful leader whose life story became the subject of many Bollywood and Tamil films.

Till his regime, Thackeray received constant criticism for his staunch Hindu stance and political game-play.
