Srinagar, Sept 2 (IBNS): A soldier and a militant have been killed in a eleven-hour-long gunfight in Ladoora village of Rafiabad area of Northern Kashmir on Wednesday.

Police sources told IBNS that one militant and an army jawan has been killed in the encounter, which followed a search operation launched in the morning in Northern Rafiabad’s Ladoora.

Police identified the slain militant as Reyaz Ahmad of Sopore town.

Earlier, on a tip-off, joint teams of Army and SOG launched a search operation in Ladoora village of Rafiabad, about the presence of some militants believed to be inside a house.

Preliminary reports suggest that Imtiyaz Kandoo of a Hizbul Mujahideen splinter group, may be trapped in a house at the encounter site.

Imtiyaz Kandoo of Sopore, is a close aide of Qayoom Najar, the disbanded Hizbul Mujahideen militant group.

This is the second gunfight in the area since last week when four militants were killed and one Pakistani militant was captured alive in the Qazinag dhara area of Rafiabad.

According to police, Imtiyaz was involved in some killings in Sopore and carries a bounty of Rs 10 lakh on his head.
