High alert sounded in Upper Assam after militant attack on Hindi speaking people

Guwahati, July 15 (IBNS): Assam police on Wednesday sounded high alert in the oil rich Upper Assam after suspected United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent) had killed at least two Hindi speaking people of a family in Tinsukia district on Tuesday night.
A top official of Assam police said that a 15 members group of the outfit led by Paresh Baruah alias Paresh Asom had entered in the districts of Upper Assam from Myanmar.

“The group comprised with sophisticated weapons had entered in Tinsukia, Dibrugarh and Sivsagar district and trying to attack on security forces. The militant group has targeted hindi speaking people in the Upper Assam districts,” the top police official said.

“We had already alerted all the districts of Upper Assam for probable militant attack,” the official said.

On Tuesday night, suspected militants belonging to ULFA(I) had killed a businessman Nandalal Shah and his daughter Kajol Shah at a remote village under Pengeri police station in Tinsukia district.

In the militant attack, three others of the family were injured.

Army and police launched massive operation against the militants in several areas of the district.

On other hand, police apprehended a hardcore militant of the outfit group from Assam-Nagaland border in Sivsagar district on Wednesday.

Following a tip-off, police  launched operation at the bordering areas near Sonari in the Upper Assam district and nabbed a militant and recovered two hand grenades in possession from him.
