Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces add flavour to Serendipity Arts Festival
As patrons of art and culture, Taj hosted the dinner to celebrate the inaugural edition of the festival that seeks to bring together various art forms on a single platform for cultural enthusiasts.
Hosted by Rakesh Sarna, Managing Director and CEO of Taj Hotels Resorts and Palaces, the evening brought together interesting elements.
Taj is committed to preserving and growing art, culture, and the heritage of the local community.
Whether it is the jewellery of Rajasthan, or the puppeteers, the weaving by the tribal groups of Ooty, the stone carver in Chennai, the musicians of Bhutan and weavers in Varanasi, everyone has a place at Taj.
As the guests indulged in stunning views of the Goa sunset at Bayview Point over cocktails and conversation, they were in for a delightful experience of the ‘Sunset ritual’.
Taj associates in traditional attire lit oil lamps accompanied by a flute recital to soothe mind, body and soul. This enchanting ritual, an eloquent expression of Tajness, is celebrated across all Taj hotels, every evening.
Adding to the magical setting were eclectic installations by Subodh Kerkar the famous Goan artist. Subodh a specialist in land art and conceptual art creates works using natural materials like shells, bamboo, stones and pebbles.
The evening also saw some enthralling performances. Sonia Shirsat and her team serenaded the guests with tales of love and longing in the soul stirring Fado music style that pays homage to the heritage of Goa.Taj is partnering with Semana da Cultura Indo-Portuguesa to revive Fado music which has its roots in Portugal. Fado has been present in the Goan music spectrum since 1800’s and started declining post 1960.
Sooraj Subramaniam, an artist of international repute trained in Bharatnatyam, Odissi, Kathak, classical ballet and contemporary dance forms delighted the guests with an innovative dance recital.
Guests were treated to a specially crafted culinary spread by Chef Rego, known for his culinary prowess in Goan cuisine. The menu showcased all-time favourite Goan specialties with unique Portuguese influences.
