Tejashwi Yadav marches to Raj Bhavan, stakes claim to form government in Bihar

India Blooms News Service | | 27 Jul 2017, 03:05 am
Patna, July 27 (IBNS): In a new turn in the unfolding political drama in Bihar, RJD leader and deputy chief minister Tejashwi Yadav on Thursday marched to Raj Bhavan after former Chief Minister of the state Nitish Kumar stitched an alliance with the BJP to form the government.

Tejashwi was accompanied by large number of RJD (Rashtriya Janata Dal) leaders as well as Congress members.

Being the largest party in the state, RJD staked its claim to form the government. They said the Governor should have invited them to form the government.

Pouring out his anger, Tejashwi, who was also the second man of Nitish's cabinet, said: "Democracy was murdered in Bihar. The people's mandate has been dishonoured. He wanted to go with BJP and so enacted the drama making me a pawn in the game."

"We will not sit idle" he added.

Within few hours of stepping down as the Bihar Chief Minister, Nitish Kumar stitched an alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday late evening.

Reports suggested that BJP will extend their support to Nitish-led JD(U) to form the government in the state.

Meanwhile, the swearing-in ceremony of the CM has been preponed to 10 am on Thursday, which was earlier scheduled at 5 pm.

Along with Nitish, BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi will take oath as the Deputy Chief Minister of Bihar on Thursday morning.

Nitish Kumar stepped down from the position after he met Bihar Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi in the evening.

His resignation ended the grand alliance which had formed the government in the state after winning the 2015 Assembly polls.

Kumar said he was resigning as the Bihar CM in the interest of the state.

The rift between Nitish Kumar and Lalu Prasad of RJD had reached a flashpoint over corruption issue and earlier deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav and his father Lalu Yadav had ruled out resignation of Tejashwi over a CBI probe arguing that a fake case was filed against him.

The move of Nitish came at  a time when the state government was facing tremendous challenges with the ruling RJD and JD(U) locked in a conflict over the issue of Tejashwi Yadav's resignation.

According to the latest news, five out of protesting leaders along with Tejashwi were asked to meet the Governor.

The RJD has also threatened to carry out a bigger protest across the state if they are not invited to form the government.
