Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma inaugurates 28 new ICU beds in GMCH

Guwahati/IBNS: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Monday inaugurated 28 new ICU beds in GMCH apart from taking stock of Covid19 treatment facilities and other aspects of the hospital.

Talking to the newsmen on the occasion, the Assam Chief Minister said that new ICU beds would greatly boost the treatment facilities for Covid patients and said these ICUs can also be used for the treatment of non-Covid critical patients.

“On Sunday, 10 extra ICU beds were added in Covid Hospital at Kalapahar and in two days a total of 38 ICU beds were added in both these hospitals,” he said.

The Chief Minister also said that another 28 ICU beds would be added in GMCH in the next few days along with 10 more in Kalapahar Hospital while a total of 200 such beds would be added in GMCH by June 15.
 

He thanked GMCH authorities, PWD and NHM Assam for completing the project in such a short time. He said that no one had to be rejected ICU beds till now in three facilities of GMCH, MMCH and KalapaharCovid Hospital in the city.

He also thanked the Health Department for executing the difficult task of conducting Covid tests on 1 lakh people daily in the state. Saying that the coming down of positivity rate to 5.68 in the state is a very welcome sign, Dr. Sarma stated that everyone must keep observing maximum precaution as the death rate is not decreasing with new dangers like black and white fungus etc.

The Chief Minister also said that he would hold a meeting with Health Department on Tuesday about the reportedly imminent third wave of Covid19 and its effect on children. 
Health Minister Keshab Mahanta, Political Secretary to the Chief Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah, Principal Secretary of Health Department Anurag Goel, Principal GMCH Dr. Achyut Baishya were also present on the occasion among others.
