After Amphan, now  IMD warns cyclonic storm may hit  Maharashtra, Gujarat by June 3

New Delhi/UNI: A low pressure area formed over the Arabian sea and Lakshadweep is likely to intensify further into a cyclonic storm and reach coastal states of Maharashtra and Gujarat by June 3, the India Meteorological Department said.

The weather bureau said, 'Low Pressure Area has formed over southeast and adjoining east-central Arabian Sea and Lakshadweep area in the morning. It is likely to concentrate into a depression over east central and adjoining southeast Arabian Sea during next 24 hours and intensify further into a Cyclonic Storm during the subsequent 24 hours.'

As the low pressure area persisted over southeast and adjoining east-central Arabian Sea and Lakshadweep area, moderate to heavy rainfall lashed Konkan and Goa on Sunday.

The central weather monitoring centre has also predicted light to moderate rainfall at most places with isolated heavy to very heavy falls very likely over Lakshadweep area, Kerala and coastal Karnataka on May 31 and June1.

'Light to moderate rainfall at most places with isolated heavy falls very likely over south Konkan and Goa on May 31 and isolated heavy to very heavy falls on June 1. Light to moderate rainfall at most places with isolated heavy to very heavy falls very likely over Konkan and Goa on June 2 and over south Konkan and Goa on June 3,' the IMD said.

There will be light to moderate rainfall at most places with heavy to very heavy falls at a few places and extremely heavy falls at isolated places over north Konkan and north Madhya Maharashtra on June 3 and 4 whereas light to moderate rainfall at most places with isolated heavy to very heavy falls very likely over south Gujarat state, Daman, Diu, Dadra and Nagar Haveli on June 3 and with heavy to very heavyfalls at a few places and extremely heavy falls at isolated places over south Gujarat state, Daman, Diu, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and on June 4.

The sea condition is very likely to be rough to very rough over southeast and adjoining east central Arabian Sea and Lakshadweep area during next 24 hours.

It would become very rough to high over east-central and southeast Arabian Sea and along and off Karnataka- south Maharashtra coasts from June 2 and high to very high over east-central and northeast Arabian Sea along and off Maharashtra & Gujarat coasts from June 3.

Fishermen have been advised not to venture into southeast Arabian Sea, Lakshadweep area and along and off Kerala coast till June 2; into east central Arabian Sea and along and off Karnataka coast till June 3 ; into east-central Arabian Sea along and off Maharashtra coast and northeast Arabian Sea along and off Gujarat coast during June 3 and 4.

The fishermen out at sea have been advised to return to coasts by Sunday evening and advised not to venture into west-central Arabian Sea along and off south Oman – Yemen coasts during next 24 hours.
