Agri and processed food products export up by 16pc to $17.43 billion in Apr-Nov FY23

New Delhi/IBNS: The exports of agricultural and processed food products rose by 16 percent to $17.43 billion in the April-November period of the current FY23 in comparison to the same period last fiscal, as per government data released on Friday.

The exports in the category stood at $15.07 billion in the first eight months of FY22.

According to the Directorate General of Commercial Intelligence and Statistics (DGCI&S) data, the overall export of agricultural and processed food products touched 74 percent of the total export target for the year 2022-23 in eight months of the current fiscal.

In actual terms, export of 17.435 billion has already been achieved in eight months of the current fiscal.

The government has set an export target of $23.56 billion for the agricultural and processed food products basket.

During the period, processed fruits and vegetable export recorded a growth of 32.60 percent, while shipments of fresh fruits grew four percent compared to the corresponding months of the previous year.

Processed food products like cereals and miscellaneous processed items reported an export growth of 28.29 percent in comparison to the first eight months of the previous year.

Fresh fruits export increased to $991 million during the period under review against $954 million in April-November, 2021.

Exports of processed F&V jumped to $ 1310 million in eight months of the current fiscal from $988 million in the corresponding months of the previous year.

The export of pulses has witnessed an increase of 90.49 percent in eight months of the current fiscal as the export of lentils increased to $392 million.

Basmati Rice exports witnessed a growth of 39.26 percent in eight months of FY 2022-23 to $ 2873 million (April-November 2022), while the export of non-Basmati rice registered a growth of 5 percent to $4109 million.

The export of poultry products jumped by 88.45 percent to $82 million, while dairy products recorded a growth of 33.77 percent to $421 million.

Wheat export has registered an increase of 29.29 percent in eight months of the current fiscal as its export rose to $1508 million in April-November 2022 from $1166 million in April-November 2021.

Other cereals’ exports increased from $619 million in April-November 2021 to $699 million in April-November 2022.

The export of livestock products increased from $2665 million in the Apr-Nov period of the last fiscal to $2709 million in the same period in 2022.
