GDP Growth India's GDP grows 8.7 pc in 2021-22, taking economy above pre-pandemic level
New Delhi: India recorded a growth of 8.7 percent in the year 2021-22 while it was 4.1 percent in the March quarter.
In 2020-21, India's GDP contracted 6.6 percent but the GDP growth in 2021-22 has taken the economy above its pre-pandemic levels.
The growth in the Jan-Mar quarter has been the slowest in FY22.
In the first quarter, the GDP shot up by 20 percent, mainly on account of the low base effect.
GDP grew 8.4 percent in the second quarter while it increased 5.4 percent.
The 2021-22 GDP growth is, however, lower than the 8.9 percent growth projected by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MoSPI), which releases the GDP data.
This growth is also lower than RBI's GDP growth projection of 9.5 percent of GDP growth for 2021-22.
The GDP growth in the fourth quarter is also way short of RBI's 6.1 percent estimate for GDP growth.
