Indian Market: Sensex slumps 882.61pts

Mumbai/UNI: The BSE Sensex on Monday plummeted 882.61 pts breaching 47K level to close negative at 47,949.42 following a spurt in covid cases across the country, as selling was seen across the board.

The Nifty too fell by 258.40 pts to 14,359.45.

The day opened on a negative note at 47,940.81 fell by 892 pts. During the day it was tanked 1470 pts to 47,362.71, days low before closing at 47,949.42, sliding 882.61 pts from its previous close.

The Sensex registered days high and low at 48,020.79 and 47,362.71 pts respectively.

The Nifty recorded days high and low at 14,382.30 and 14,191.40 pts respectively.

The sectoral indices that dragged the market were Realty, top loser down by 3.96 pc followed by Capital Goods, Auto, Utilities and Finance stocks.

The scrips that declined were Powergrid a top losers fell by 4.17 pc to Rs 201.15, ONGC by 3.91 pc to Rs 103.10, IndusInd Bank by 3.89 pc to Rs 831.70, Kotak Bank by 3.65 pc to Rs 1701.05 and L& T by 3.60 pc to Rs 1310.80.

While, Dr Reddy was up by 1.58 pc to Rs 4970.55 and Infosys by 0.74 pc to Rs 1362.60.

The Mid Cap slipped by 1.93 pc and Small Cap by 1.64 pc. In 30 scrips, 29 declined while 1 rose.
