Hyderabad/UNI: Leading U.S. life insurer Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company (MassMutual) has announced the opening of its Global Capability Center (GCC) here on Monday.

Located in the heart of Hyderabad’s Financial District, GCC in Hyderabad is the first centre for MassMutual in India and outside of the United states.

The company is planning to invest over Rs 1000 crore in its GCC in Hyderabad based on projections, the Insurance Company said in a release here.

The Company has already started hiring and till date it hired about 300 plus employees and is looking forward to bringing bright engineers for its digital transformation in its 1,50,000 sft GCC at Financial District.

Currently, MassMutual employs more than 6,000 people in the U.S.

Mr. Ravi Tangirala, the Head of MassMutual India and Mr. Arthur Riel, Head of Core Technology at MassMutual, who interacted on a video conference during the day with the officials from the Government of Telangana, Minister for Information Technology K T Rama Rao and Principal Secretary Jayesh Ranjan, said that MassMutual engaged in multiple conversations with the state government since the leadership team first visited Hyderabad in October 2019.

The company evaluated several global cities before narrowing it down to Hyderabad, they said.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr Rama Rao said “Hyderabad has witnessed several marquee investments in recent times, notwithstanding the prevalent pandemic.

MassMutual, a 170-year-old top Fortune 500 organization and a world leader in the Insurance and the Finance Industry choosing Hyderabad and establishing its first GCC outside USA here is a testimony to the investor friendly policies and the value proposition the City and State of Telangana offers.

The Minister appreciated Mr. Ravi Tangirala's efforts in establishing a world-class organization in Hyderabad in a record time.

“Opening a GCC in India will help us remain on the cutting edge of technological advancement given the high-level of expertise in this market,”Mr Ravi Tangirala said.

“We look forward to growing our global team in Hyderabad in order to help MassMutual retain its standing as an industry-leading innovator, he said.

With expertise complementing our current innovation leadership in the U.S., we hope to become one of the great places to work in India, while helping grow the regional economy, he informed.

Since opening operations in the first quarter of 2020, MassMutual India has positioned itself to continue growing at a rapid pace into the future, Mr Tangirala added.

The Hyderabad office is MassMutual operated, and hiring will supplement the company’s existing, U.S.-based team that continues to grow.

“We look forward to welcoming our future colleagues to MassMutual India,” Mr Arthur Riel said.

“We are confident in the quality of talent here - a mature workforce with a strong understanding of technology and business will help achieve MassMutual’s innovation goals, he added.
