Kolkata, Aug 7 (IBNS): Around 2000 plumbers across India will receive special training under Project Pankh, a collaboration between Utkarsh India Ltd (UIL) and the Indian Plumbing Skills Council (IPSC) operating under the aegis of National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC).

According to Utkarsh Bansal, Director, UIL, lack of skilled workers and poor training opportunities are the most pressing concerns of the modern plumbing community.

"We are happy to be associated with IPSC and looking forward to help the plumbing community by providing better technical skills thereby enhancing their livelihood," said Bansal.

Under this program, independent plumbers and plumber assistants will be provided with free training for the specific job roles as per National Skill Qualification Framework (NSQF) by IPSC.

They will also be provided specialised training by Utkarsh India Ltd on the latest products and techniques.

The plumbers will be assessed and subsequently felicitated with Skill India, IPSC & Utkarsh India Ltd Certification recognizing their skills.

Sandip K Roy Choudhury, Director, IPSC, said “IPSC has created a platform of recognition of the existing skilled plumbers highlighting their level of competency, and is working through their partners, to impart the skills in plumbing and making them industry ready.”

Vinay Gupta, Vice Chairman, IPSC, said, “We at IPSC have been working continuously to engage the plumbing industry towards the Skill India Mission. Our association with UIL is a great step towards creating more recognition and opportunities for the plumbing workforce.”

The one-year skill development program under Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) aims to reinforce the objective of Skill India Mission, part of the Union Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE).

Dr. Manish Kumar, MD & CEO, National Skill Development Corporation said, “This collaboration will empower a large number of Indian youth engaged in plumbing to undertake industry-relevant skill training that will support their professional growth in this informal sector.”

West Bengal based Utkarsh India Limited is an ISO 9001:2015 certified organization with over 40 years of manufacturing expertise in the infra-structure sector.

This training initiative will be part of Utkarsh India Ltd’s Corporate Social Responsibility activity.
